THINGS TO DO IN BOULDER CITY NEVADA

History

Beginnings as federal company town the land upon which Boulder City was founded was a harsh, desert environment. Its sole reason for existence was the need to house workers contracted to build the Hoover Dam on the Colorado River (known commonly as Boulder Dam from 1933 to 1947, when it was officially renamed Hoover Dam by a joint resolution of congress). Men hoping for work on the dam project had begun settling along the river in tents soon after the precise site for the dam had been chosen by the bureau of reclamation in 1930. Their ramshackle edifices were collectively known as “ragtown”.

We are Boulder City. Builders of the Hoover Dam. Our tenacious spirit lives on in the form of relentless adventure. We exist to satisfy the wanderer and the thrill seeker that lives in each vacationer, visitor and voyager. Whether you’re passing through or staying a while, welcome.

Boulder City Tourism: Best of Boulder City

The strip is actually the “paradise” in the metro area name, stretching south along Las Vegas boulevard from a not-too-interesting real downtown area and has resisted annexation from the city proper. That’s probably okay; this area flourishes on its own and doesn’t get much attention in real life from local residents, except those who work there. Stripping away tourism and entertainment still reveals a hot, dry, desert town exploding with growth. Las Vegas has one of the highest growth rates among larger metropolitan areas, as well as the sprawl problems that accompany it. The economy is highly tied to the tourist trade and more recently the construction trade, as housing construction is booming. Home prices have skyrocketed in recent years.
